Gernando, envious of Rinaldso, slanders the young knight, which angers Rinaldo who confronts Gernando and slays him. Godfrey is ready to arrest Rinaldo; however, Tancred persuades the young man to
flee to Bohemond. Godfrey wants Rinaldo to submit to his authority, but Rinaldo has already fled the camp. In Canto 14, Godfrey has a dream in which he sees
a vision of heaven, in which he is instructed to send two men, Charles and Ubaldo, to search for Rinaldo and return with him to the camp. (The student should
note that in the translation of the poem that was consulted for this paper, "Carlos" is referred to as "Charles.") In Canto 15, a wiseman Charles and Ubaldo, with
the aid of Fortune herself as a guide, travel to the Fortunate Islands. There, they scale a mountain, fighting a dragon and a lion along the way. They are also
tempted by seductive women before finally arriving at Armidas palace. When the pair encounter Rinaldo within the palace, they are able to reawaken his warrior spirit by showing him a
