"famous for...affability and humor" (McSparran 172). And, interestingly enough, both Tom and Huck are present in both stories. But, for the most part the stories involve very different plots and
very different elements. In better understanding the similarities and differences in the two the following paper examines each story separately and then offers a comparison and contrast. The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer "Tom Sawyer lived securely with the knowledge that his Aunt Polly loved him dearly. When she scolded him or whipped him, he knew that inside her
breast lurked a hidden remorse" (Anonymous The Adventures of Tom Sawyer 9). In essence, he lived a good and well established existence. He was not to want for food or
clothing or schooling. He was, however, a bit of an adventurer and rascal. In the beginning he was late for school, because he stopped to talk to Huck.
