consider what happens when one person has trouble getting a new laptop to run properly. Discussion Its a gorgeous day in the Pacific
Northwest; in fact, its going to top 90 degrees. This is not particularly unusual for the region, which this year had a hot spell where the temperature hit 107 one
day, and was above 100 for several other days in a 10-day period. People know about the rain, but those who dont live here are surprised by the extreme heat.
Its not unusual for someone to make a trip to Seattle or Portland and wade through water their entire visit. If they return in the summer theyre likely to find
that it hasnt rained in weeks, the sun is shining brilliantly, and the heat is verging on unbearable. However, since most of the year is cool (or downright cold) and
wet, very few residences have air conditioning. So, yesterday, our new laptop owner Zeke was trying to get an Internet connection. Having spent almost 7 hours the day before on
the phone to various tech support centers at various locations around the world, Zeke was fed up. All the conversations started the same way: "Have you called XYZ for technical
support before? Ah, you have. And what is your case number?" This was usually followed by a long silence while the tech looked over the ridiculously complex repairs that had
been made; he would them come back on the line and suggest further repairs. The last go-round resulted in getting the desktop hung up in an infinite loop, where logging
onto a network simply brought up a list of networks to log onto; Zeke would log on and then be given the same list of networks, over and over again.
