by soliciting input from both staff and parents as to what the main objectives of such a policy should be and also any suggestions for implementation. Drawing on the
assignment language, this writer/tutor presumes that the input and development process identified the issue of toddlers crying; parents not being given sufficient attention; how staff should meet their needs in
a respectful manner and consideration for the diversity of each family as the main issues identified by this process. Policy and Procedure for Arrival Routine The staff will prepare
educational materials that inform parents about normal toddler development. This information will convey to parents how it is perfectly natural for toddlers to express anxiety over separation from their parent
and to also feel anxious in a new environment (Poole 26). However, there are strategies that can reduce toddler separation anxiety and make arrival less stressful for everyone involved.
At a special parent meeting, parents will be provided with a handout that lists strategies that can aid in getting their toddlers used to the idea of "coming to
school" as an activity that "big boys and girls." Parents will be advised to introduce the topic by saying something like "Now that youre almost three, weve found a special
place for you to meet friends, play games and be with grown-ups called teachers" (Shimm). Another suggestions is to read books to the toddler, such as Will I Have A
