Many have come to question to what extent security managers need to take account of national and international risks when formulating their
organizational security procedures. The answer to that question can be found in the impacts recent world events have had on our societal organizations. As a result of those
events, security management has taken on a different level of urgency. Security managers roles have expanded from those that are narrowly defined and concerned with only a few outside
threats to those that must not only take a specific companys concerns in mind but world events as a whole. Security management concerns for the corporate sector are just
as critical in many respects as security management within the government itself. For each, the principles of risk and security management have expanded to include threat evaluation and appropriate
resilience procedures. Security decisions are no longer restricted to the lower echelons of an organization but instead extend all the way to the top of each organization.
Todays security manager must have the capability of rendering effective management. At the same time they must be accountable for their decisions,
for decisions as diverse as those made in human resources, architectural and infrastructural design, and funding. This capability and accountability is reflected for security managers in business organizations, information
networks, military installations, and government operations alike. Security managers must be abreast of the issues and utilize the appropriate logistics in address to those issues. They must keep
