committed by Robinson - is wracked with lies. He achieves this with very clever questioning that forces the witness to give up incriminating information, bettering Finchs chance to win
the case. After questioning rape victim Mayella, Finch establishes grounds that the trial is incriminating against Robinson, a critical moment in Finchs criminal justice approach, because no one in
the town besides Finch wants to believe Robinson is innocent of the crime. Despite the fact that none of the evidence points to him, the townspeople are eager to
convict him merely because he is a Negro; they will go so far as to lie to achieve their objective, no matter how obvious the evidence is at disproving their
intolerant contentions. Finch is instrumental in thwarting this intent through successful trial interrogation. Myriad aspects comprise the component of prosecution, not the
least of which included the trial interrogation process, the art of which requires much more than merely asking a question and getting an answer; in fact, Finch illustrates how there
are grand psychological implications when a trial interrogation is effectively carried out. Such legal third degree, however, is a far cry from how it was back in the early
part of the century. In the 1930s, the criminal justice system had a veritable open door policy when it came to interrogating witnesses. Current day employ a much
more methodical approach to weed out false testimony. Long before a skilled interrogator like Finch can trip up a witness and uncover the
