their selfish, cruel, and evil encouragement of others the plays stand as intricate and volatile stories. The following paper compares and contrasts the character of Aaron, from Titus Andronicus, and
Iago, from Othello. Titus Aaron and Othellos Iago Throughout both of these plays by Shakespeare the characters of Aaron engage in
devious actions that are horrible in one way or another. In many respects one could well argue that Aarons are far more horrid because he manipulates people into raping and
disfiguring a woman and essentially doing great harm with apparently no solid reason. Iago, on the other hand, is angry and jealous and resentful of Othello and does whatever he
can to destroy his world. In Aarons case there does not seem to be any real motive other than that which likes to control people.
It is also very interesting to note that both of these characters have something of a monologue, aimed at the audience, that informs the audience about their
selfish nature and their evil intentions relating to controlling other people. Aaron states the following: "Now climbeth Tamora Olympus top, Safe out of fortunes shot; and sits aloft, Secure of
thunders crack or lightning flash; Advanced above pale envys threatening reach...Then, Aaron, arm thy heart, and fit thy thoughts...I will be bright, and shine in pearl and gold" (Shakespeare [2]
II i). In this passage the reader or audience can see that Aaron is speaking of manipulating others, especially Tamora, using people to seek out his own ends. In
