One of the more significant passages in Wordsworths Tintern Abbey is that from lines 86 to 107, in which he expresses his changed and maturing view of nature and
spirituality. Since the poem as a whole is concerned with the way in which the poets perception of his life and the events of history have changed in the five
years between his visits to the Wye Valley, it would appear that the selected section is highly representative of the extent to which his perception of nature, spirit and humanity
has developed during that time. The poem was written after his second visit to Tintern, during which time he had undergone a number of significant experiences in his personal life.
He points out, for
example, that he has learned to look on nature (88-89) not in the animalistic and exuberant way of youth, but from a viewpoint which also allows him to understand the
interrelationship of human beings with the forces of nature. He mentions that his own growth as a mature individual allows him to hear the music of humanity . . of
ample power (91-92) which reflects his comprehension of the way that nature can be interpreted through human thought and perceptions.
