rights in this connection. Discussion Tinders article is really about whether or not its possible for us, as fallible humans, to arrive at a political system that embodies
true equality and justice if we do not also embrace the concept of Christian love. He argues that we cannot divorce politics and spirituality; that although we think of spirituality
as something private, it is in fact "deeply engaged in the affairs of the world" (Tinder). Thus, if we are to be involved in the world, including politics, we
must approach it spiritually. If spirituality is political, then politics is spiritual, a belief that was affirmed by Plato "at the very beginnings of Western political philosophy" (Tinder). It
is only in modern times that we have come to believe that politics is entirely secular (Tinder). If we regard politics in this way, however, it "loses its moral
structure and purpose, and turns into an affair of group interest and personal ambition" (Tinder). It seems obvious that politics as we know it today does in fact turn
on special interests; further, in Tinders words, "[G]overnment comes to the aid of only the well organized and influential ... Politics ceases to be understood as a preeminently human activity
and is left to those who find it profitable, pleasurable, or in some other way useful to themselves" (Tinder). We have certainly see that! We find, in addition,
