go through time in various fashions or manners. They are novels that generally take the reader, and character(s) through a non linear time frame that can often be confusing. Interestingly
enough, his work generally uses this style of presentation as just one part of the overall plot but in "Timequake" it is the subject of the entire novel. The following
paper examines this particular novel, discussing the message of the story. Timequake The entire plot of this story begins in 2001 when the earth decides, somehow, that it will
no longer expand, but will contract instead. This takes everyone back ten years to 1991. Every person finds themselves reliving every single moment of the past ten years. The people
can do nothing to change what they have done, or to change what has happened to them in that time. Every individual must relive the ten years in all its
excruciating reality. What truly comes into play in this novel, through the use of the earths contraction, is the lack of free will. Everyone, as mentioned, must relive those ten
years. They have no choice but to go through every single moment over again. They have no control and no choices. They can not fix any mistakes they made nor
can they avoid any disasters they know are coming their way. This leaves every individual in a position where they have absolutely no control of their lives, no control of
their destiny, and surely no free will to alter anything. Interestingly enough, when we think of going back in time and reliving events we often imagine being able to fix
things. Perhaps we could not do a particular thing, such as take a job, that we know will only lead to disaster. Maybe we could warn someone about an impending
