relationship to God. These subjects are discussed extensively by Augustine in Henry Chadwicks translation of Book XI of "The Confessions." Augustine, through Chadwicks translation, is clear and understandable
even when dealing with such abstract concepts. Augustine was both philosopher and theologian. He believed that it would it would be exact to say
that there are three times: a present of things past, a present of things present, and a present of things to come. The present considering the past is the
memory, the present considering the present is immediate awareness, and the present considering the future is expectation. Time and eternity juxtapose and unite from creation until infinity. They
have become one. The Augustinian theory is one of idealism. According to Augustine, ones memory is a container not of images, but
of realities. The memory is not of temporal events or spatial objects, but of eternal truths. St. Augustines thesis is that a person understands what is real because
of the inner truth implanted in his or her mind. Augustine posits that since the mind does not see the thing and yet finds, or thinks that it finds,
that it does not exist, a word can be a sign that signifies nothing. God, on the other hand, is omnipotent. He is omnificent. Time is spatial.
It exists as a moment to God. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow converge and become one with God. Present exists as a moment in time. Time cannot
not be truly measured in relation to God, for time does not exist for God. From creation to infinity is just a moment in Gods time.
