globally the company had 24.3 million subscribers in the United States on the 31st of December 2003, and in Europe 6.4 million (Time Warner, 2004). This is one of the
core groups, and AOL has increased its stake in the European operation in 2003 with the purchase of Vivendi Universals interest in the business at a cost of US$812 million
