Disciplining children in a way that is effective, ethical and legal can be a complicated chore in our modern society. This chore can be especially complex when the discipline
is being administered not in the home environment but in the school environment. Just as inappropriate behavior can come in many forms so too can the disciplinary techniques which
are used to correct it. Unfortunately, our schools have transitioned from the orderly environment of yesteryear to one which can be disruptive if not all out dangerous. This
is not just true in our high schools and our middle schools, it is true as well in our elementary schools. For a variety of societal reasons students simply
dont have the respect and discipline that was characteristic of the schools in the earlier years of our history. It becomes the job of the school, both its administrators
and its teachers, to reclaim the classroom environment from one of chaos to one of education. Deciding exactly how to do that, however, can be dependent not just
on our knowledge of the most effective behavioral management technique but also on the social and legal environment in which we operate. The
educator is faced with a variety of problems in regard to proper student behavior in the educational setting. While it is seldom in our elementary schools that disorder progresses
to outright violence such as has been the case in the recent school shootings across the nation, there are many other types of disciplinary problems which serve as a disruption
