Ltd., founded in 1983, operates two manufacturing facilities in China and employs 1,500 people. The company specialized in the production of six- to eight-headed spindle Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
drilling machinery for use in circuit board production until the late 1990s, when it sought to develop presence in the segment of the market seeking two- to four-headed spindle CNC
machinery. Timaxs primary markets currently are in China, Hong Kong, Korea and the US; its closest competitors are Hitachi, Schmoll, Pluritec, Prosulex and
Mania. Timax has two distinct competitive advantages over its competition, however. Timax is better able to compete on price and quality than are its competitors. It leads
price competition in the six- to eight-headed spindle machine market, and it leads in quality in the market for the smaller machines it now seeks to export to Australia.
