throughout his life. He also was seemingly drawn to the field of education and this is a theme throughout his life as well. An honorable man, he married and took
care of her wife until her untimely death due to disease. In his work life, he fought hard for the little guy. Not a good student, Marshall simply did what
he had to do to get by, but during his stint with higher education, he was influenced by one man and suddenly, this fledgling student would suddenly become a conscientious
young man who was interested in fighting for justice. It should be said that while he was not a good student, it appears that the problem was apathy and not
intelligence. Marshall turned out to be a brilliant judge. Marshalls interest in education was personal. His mother and grandmother were both teachers. He saw injustice wherever he went due to
the fact that segregation existed. The schools were an important part of the puzzle as students had been denied opportunities on the basis of race. He himself could not get
into schools of his choice due to race, something he would later correct when he became a Supreme Court Justice. It seems that his life dictated his career. He was
being groomed for the role by his life circumstances. In some way, it seems as if he was destined to his role as a champion of civil rights in the
area of education. His personal denial to schools and his later triumph, coupled with his family background aligned with education, would create a life theme for this great black American.
