been created as a part of therapeutic play; a process of introducing play activities through which children can process emotions. This paper will assess the use of three different
types of therapeutic play activities, sandbox play, a playdough activity, and coloring in/drawing, as elements of therapeutic play. This paper will identify the activities, their theoretical underpinnings and
the expected utility of each method. Description: Sandbox Play Sandbox play is based on the use of a sandbox or sandtray
and the free expression and manipulation of sand as a means of expression. Thompson and Rudolf (2000) identified a number of theorists, including Bradley and Gould (1993) and Kalff
(1981) who recognized that sand play can be a component of a childs self-healing process, with counselors generally playing the role of the "respectful witness" (p. 390). Sandbox play
can be based on the use of different sized containers used to shape the sand, wet and dry sand, or the use of miniatures, including people, animals, vehicles and buildings
