perspectives to deviance and social control; which means that we need to understand what each of the three assumes about a particular phenomenon, and what sort of questions arise from
that assumption. Once weve done that, well compare these three perspectives as applied to another phenomenon, sadistic pornography, and see if there are similarities among them, and then see
if we can devise ways in which control of deviance might be approached differently. Well begin with Christian demonology and its relationship to deviance and control. Christian Demonology The first
thing, of course, is that its hard to define "deviance" in any meaningful way. What one person or society considers deviant is perfectly acceptable elsewhere. Philosophers have been arguing for
centuries over whether or not there are things that are absolutely wrong at all times (murder), but even in such circumstances some people still support a relativistic position. This seems
to be a point that cannot be satisfactorily resolved and will merely throw the discussion off the rails, but its important to note that this dichotomy exists. Christian demonology in
its broadest definition is the study of demons from a Christian perspective (What is Christian demonology?, 2007). In this tradition, "Satan and his demons are fallen angels, true and real
personal beings who wage war against God, the holy angels, and humanity" (What is Christian demonology?, 2007). In the Christian demonological tradition, then, Satan is real, present, and a danger
