skills in the population of nursing professionals. Naish (1997) recognized that the concept of leadership is gaining increasing importance in recent years in the nursing profession.
In fact, researchers have attempted to consider the correlation between natural leadership skills and appropriate training as they can serve to "round out" the skills of nurses in the
modern health care environment (Naish, 1997). Even so, there is debate about whether nurses training programs are effective in developing leadership qualities in the emerging student population or that
there is even a necessity for leadership training, based on the misguided assertion that leadership is a natural characteristic (Naish, 1997). With the emerging prevalence of nurse leaders in
the profession and the increasing reliance on nurses as an integral part of the carative model, there is a definitive need to recognize the specific characteristics and skills of effective
