hence, the Law of Influence is the second Law of Leadership that Maxwell (2007) describes. Influence is not only important in a formal position of leadership, it is important in
daily life. In a leadership position, however, one will not be successful unless they have influence in the organization. One very influential person in the world was Mother Teresa.
She was an unassuming nun. She looked small and fragile. Despite her looks, Mother Teresa traveled working with the poor. She founded an organization she called Missionaries of Charity that
eventually had 4,000 members plus volunteers. They worked across 25 countries on five continents establishing various missions and centers, such as the childrens home, a center for people stricken with
leprosy, a home for those who were destitute and other centers just in Calcutta. Mother Teresas work caught the attention of the media and she became known throughout the
world. Her followers included not only Catholics but other Christians and Jews. Her message was simple, we must love each other and we must care for each other. In one
speech, she asked the audience if we are "willing to give until it hurts in order to be with our families, or do we put our own interests first?" (Maxwell,
