inferred from an article. Discussion The Harappan civilization is the mature phase of the Indus Valley civilization that spread along the Indus River in present-day Pakistan in approximately 3000-1500 BC
(Swanson, 1998). The two main cities were Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa and similarities in their construction and layout suggest they may have been part of a "unified government" (Swanson, 1998). Burials
here were not ornate, suggesting that class differences were non-existent here (Swanson, 1998). There havent been any palaces or temples, nor has there been evidence of military activity found, leading
to the conclusion that the Harappans were a peaceful people (Swanson, 1998). The civilization appears to have been mostly "urban and mercantile," trading with Persia, southern India, Mesopotamia and Afghanistan
for such goods as gold, turquoise, silver and copper (Swanson, 1998). The Harappan civilization borrowed the "Mesopotamian model of irrigated agriculture" in order to take advantage of the annual flooding
of the Indus (Swanson, 1998). The crops grown included "wheat, barley, peas, melons, and sesame" and the Harappans were the first to grow cotton to produce cloth (Swanson, 1998). The
Harappans had domesticated several animals including the elephant (Swanson, 1998). There has been little artwork recovered from this civilization; what has been found seems to be religious in intent,

(Swanson, 1998). The three religions/belief systems we need to consider are Christianity, Buddhism and Confucianism. Christianity is the "odd man out" here, since it considers the person who is
the head of the faith to be immortal: Jesus Christ. It is also a formal religion, with rites and ceremonies, rules and regulations that need to be obeyed if a
