of research and to compare them in terms of key criteria such as research design, statement of problem, proper layout of the background of the problem being investigated and the
variables involved in that background, and the adequate use of the literature to delineate the problem. The first research which will
be reviewed in this quest is a thesis published online at .http://www.fbe.unsw.edu.au/staff/Mariano.Ramirez/thesiscontents.pdf. The study involves the trials and tribulations the researcher encountered in attempting to utilize widely available and
accessible online tools for the purpose of teaching a Sustainable Development course at a Philippine institution of higher learning. Ramirez expertly utilizes the literature to demonstrate his contention that
the "Internet phenomena will have tremendous impacts and implications on the future of learning", a contention that supports his interest in investigating the value of an increased emphasis on this
virtual learning environment for the Philippines, a country where even though only a relatively small percentage of its populace currently use the Internet there is a great need for alternative
educational options. In this specific research, however, Ramirez chooses to focus on whether the online learning environment could be as cognitively rewarding as the more traditional classroom environment, specifically
