Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 3 page paper describing artificially “aging” for a day to discover the problems of being elderly and still trying to remain active. The writer describes experiences of moving around and performing simple tasks with a towel rolled and taped around one knee; another at an ankle; and a paper towel between two fingers on each hand. Humbled after the day’s experience, the writer realized the problems that older people suffering these hindrances – as well as associated pain – naturally face in trying to remain active so that conditions do not deteriorate further. was waiting for her "bones to loosen up," but I always secretly believed she was just waiting for the chores of daily routine to be finished before she would get
up and start moving around herself. I remember she would occasionally complain about stiff joints. She was affected every day, but to
her credit, she never said much about it; we had to hear it only occasionally. This experiment provided an opportunity to recreate some of my grandmothers complaints and their
resulting effects. I acquired a "stiff" knee by rolling a towel, wrapping it around and taping it in place. An ankle was
