those of Sir Karl Poppers in relation to whether changes take place as one tremendous alteration or, instead, in the form of small but numerous shifts. Kuhns primary observation is
that sciences does not provide an explanation for independently existing reality; instead, the philosopher contends that scientists are "an irrational bunch who run from one paradigm to another, for reasons
with no real connection to finding objective truths" (Searle, 1996, p. PG). This enlightened conjecture is not nearly as illuminating within scientific and philosophy departments as it is throughout
literature departments due to the condemning nature of such an accusation. While many argue the anti-rational approach of Kuhns concept, others grasp the fundamental components that clearly illustrate how
such a precept has been ordained into contemporary culture by way of its presence within various humanities departments (Searle, 1996). "[Individuals who break through by inventing a new paradigm
are] almost always...either very young or very new to the field whose paradigm they change....These are the men who, being little committed by prior practice to the traditional rules of
normal science, are particularly likely to see that those rules no longer define a playable game and to conceive another set that can replace them" (Kuhn, ).
