are preprogrammed from the moment they are born. Hobbes believed political authority is an omnipotent entity, no matter how much it may infringe
upon the populaces natural rights. In fact, Hobbes disagreed with the entire philosophy of natural law, contending how mans intrinsic nature simply does not equate with these tenets (Klugman,
2005); rather, he echoed the stance of Travis Hirschis Social Control Theory that contends everyone maintains the potential to, for example, violate the law but does not do so out
of social fear. People who partake of illegal activities tend not to have enough social bonds to make them think twice about their actions and, therefore, are not concerned
with the consequences. Illustrating this move away from ones right to a self-governed existence is how Hobbes clearly addresses the notion of individualism
and Social Contract Theory as they relate to the moral factor behind justice. Because society is fundamentally based upon performance and profit, it is not unusual to find that
