clearly made many Americans realize they were not isolated, not impenetrable to outside forces. While the rest of the world had always been aware of their vulnerability, the United States
had a tendency to think they were not vulnerable and wit 9/11 many had to rethink their beliefs. In the book of poetry This Connection of Everyone with Lungs by
Juliana Spahr one is made to think of the infamous words of Rodney King; "Why cant we all just get along." When King said it there was a sense that
it was a plea to anyone listening, or perhaps more of a rhetorical question. But, in the poetry of This Connection of Everyone with Lungs the reader is made to
really ask that question, wondering "why CANT we all get along?" in light of the fact that "everyone with lungs breathes the space between the hands and the space around
the hands and the space of the room and the space of the building that surrounds the room and the space of the neighborhoods nearby and the space of the
cities and the space of the regions in and out" (Spahr 6). The following paper examines how Spahr questions the reader, urging them to seek an answer to the question
