see one who seeks to challenge those traditions. We see a young man who is determined to look for pieces of truth outside of his well known culture. In this
aspect he is incredibly strong. For he is essentially going against all that he was taught, all that keeps him safe within the family and the community, all that his
people are, and all he has been taught he is. He is seeking answers and in that there is a great deal of strength. We see Nwoye questioning in a
culture that does not allow for such investigation necessarily. He belongs to a powerful and influential family and the fact that he begins to question and look elsewhere, outside his
culture, for answers, presents him as a very strong and intelligent individual. To face the ridicule and the rejection of his family and community is a very difficult task that
calls for a great deal of personal strength. Now, he of course was perhaps not the only one to be questioning such things, for his culture had some serious misgivings
that allowed room for another belief to enter. But, being from the powerful family he was, this move was incredibly strong and showed character. At the same time, however, Nwoye
entered into this other faith, that of Christianity, because he was angry at his father. This is clearly a sign of weakness. He was unable to confront the problem and
somehow resolve it all on his own. He needed the support of another, that being another faith. This is not to say that Nwoye was not truly believing in the
Christian faith, but his reasons for first committing himself to the faith showed a great deal of weakness. While he was running from his father, in anger, he was also
