every political fight. When it comes to intervention, some people believe that he United States should not intervene at all in the affairs of other nations. For some time, the
United States actually did embrace an isolationist stance, but things have changed over the years. Others believe that when necessary, intervention is essential. Of course, even for those who believe
that intervention is appropriate when necessary may disagree on when it is necessary. When examining issues of whether or not there should be intervention in a conflict, one outstanding situation
is Darfur. Should there be intervention there? More specifically, a student asks: Does the international community have a moral obligation to intervene to stop the killing in Darfur? While the
question may be thought provoking, when examining ethical theory, it does seem as if the world does have an obligation to step in and help the people who are genuinely
suffering. First, it should be stated that there has been conflict within Darfur for some time. Many people have tried to paint a picture equated with an existence of an
ethnic conflict, but nothing more. While one could say that there is certainly an ethnic conflict at hand, the problem is much more complicated than that. There is a sense
that the Sudanese are being unfair to the people of Darfur, and also that those who live in the region are being oppressed. Many would say that such is an
understatement. The fact that many flee and become refugees is evidence that something is awry, but of course, that would also be an understatement. There is devastation in the region
