they are perhaps the singular fascination of psychology, but they are by no means the sole domain of psychology. Rather, biologists and neurologists also have a lot to say about
the origins of emotions. Psychologists themselves have a great number of ideas about where emotions might come from, from complex theories about preconscious nervous reactions to external stimuli to attempts
of the subconscious mind to express its latent repressed desires. That said, physical science offers competing views such as the idea that emotions stem from nervous system responses on a
purely biological level, or the idea that emotions are governed by the chemical interplay of neurotransmitters. This paper will present a tripartite breakdown of several competing theories of emotion.
In this paragraph, the student is aided in presenting the three theories of emotion. The three theories of emotional origin that will be discussed within the context of this paper
are the biological theory, the psychological theory, and the chemical theory. It has to be noted, however, that despite the names used for these theoretical perspectives, there are all, in
a sense, "biological" in nature (Schlegelmilch & Fresco, 2005). This is because, all of the competing theories do share the fundamental core idea that emotion stems forth from a biological
