A 9 page paper. Two theories are discussed in this paper: Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development and Lawrence Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development. With Erikson's stages, the crisis to be resolved, the successful outcome and the virtue gained from that crisis are identified. With Kohlberg's theory, each the categories and their stages are presented. The paper also includes brief comments about why each theory was criticized. The possible need to modify the theories in view of our current population, e.g., the growing number of elderly, is mentioned. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

current population, e.g., the growing number of elderly, is mentioned. Erik Eriksons Stages of Psychosocial Development There are several theories related to human development, e.g., Freud, Piaget, but
only Eriksons theory includes a persons entire life from birth to death. It is unique in that aspect. In other ways, it holds some of the same principles as others,
such as stages are invariant and sequential, which means that they occur in order and each individual will move through each stage. Another difference with Eriksons theory is that ego
development is based on two major factors, biological processes (the psychosexual base) and interpersonal relationships (the psychosocial base). Because of the two categories, Eriksons stages already incorporate at least some
of the impact of gender, culture and other factors in a persons life. Erikson incorporates the Epigenetic Principle, which is the premise that biological development is seen in the
fetus and that when that there is plan for development (Crawford, n.d.). This principle has to do with the need for all parts to be working as they are supposed
to for the individual to become a whole being. Eriksons theory is about ego identity, knowing who we are (Wagner, 2007). It is also about competence, specifically, developing competencies at
