focus on protection and safety for people who trust in God. The Psalmist suggests protection against things like pestilence and plague and even against stubbing your toe. It cites
God as saying that He will rescue and protect those who call upon Him from all sorts of troubles. The Psalm refers to the "Most High" and the "Almighty"
in the first verse. Who is the Most High and the Almighty? Is this the same God of Abraham or is this a Supreme God who is over the others?
The Lord promises all this security and protection. How far does this protection and rescue really go? Does it mean that God will protect His followers against all sorts of
harm and trouble? We know it does not mean that because the faithful have been challenged with harm and hurt from all kinds of sources for all time. We can
gain insight about the meanings of this Psalm by consulting a number of classical commentaries. Theological Exegesis To conduct a theological exegesis of Psalm 91, we need to consider each
verse. We then need to consider an overall interpretation of the entire Psalm. The Psalm begins by identifying the group who will be protected: "He who dwells in the shelter
of the Most High" (Psalm 91:1). The Most High means the Lord God Almighty which is confirmed with the next phrase, "will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." The
pronoun he refers to anyone who makes the choice to live by Gods Word. The pronoun refers to those who make God their habitation and refuge (Wesley 1754). God protects
the faithful in His shadow, He will not let the enemies or troubles find the penitent (Spurgeon 1885). His shadow is like a veil drawn over the faithful (Spurgeon 1885).
