a film that will delight any writer or creative individual who does not work up to his potential. It is inspiring. With the character Forrester who is the stereotypical brilliant recluse to his jealous counterpart who is not nearly as good, named Crawford, a young talented boy is given a chance. Johns (2003) calls the older protagonist, Forrester, "Salinger-esque" (p.16). Forrester is Jamals mentor and just may be based on the real life novelist J.D. Salinger. Jamal clearly has talent. As part of a dare, Jamal breaks into a mans apartment and it turns out to be a great writer who has hidden himself from the world. Ridden with guilt, Forrester does not want anything to do with people, but he finds some connection to Jamal after he reads some of his writing that was inadvertently left at the scene. The book bag he had forgotten in Forresters apartment would set the stage for a new relationship. The boy and this seasoned writer would become friends of sorts. One can imagine that the old relic might not be so friendly and they would be right. However, the relationship is more than a superficial encounter that would turn into a teacher/student relationship. At the same time, there are two teachers in this work who are at odds. They are of course Forrester and Crawford. Forrester actually serves as the young writers mentor. After all, he is one of the greats and although Crawford is not an alcoholic recluse, it is Forrester who has the most talent and the most to share.
