this is a violent, action film, it focuses on relationships. In the film, there is attention paid to a casino in Las Vegas that is run by the mob (Simon
47). The focus of the film is on Sam Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro, the latter of whom is a vicious mobster (Simon 47). Rothstein is played by Robert De
Niro and Santoro is played by Joe Pesce. Santoro, as Simon describes him " foists himself on Ace as an enforcer, only to become further corrupted by his new deadly
power" (Simon 47). Ginger McKenna, played by Sharon Stone, is married to Rothstein but becomes involved with Santoro (Simon 47). James Wood is Gingers old pimp (Simon 47). Clearly,
there are a great deal of men surrounding the McKenna character, but the focus of attention is on the business relationship between Ace and Nicky. The film opens and it
is stated that this is based on a true story. Of course, Scorsese appears to be attracted to life and presents it like literature. According to a student writing on
this subject, two powerful themes which emerge are childhood friendship and love interests. Indeed, while friends and love is somewhat of a theme in many works, the focus of attention
