these authors address many universal themes, the mood depicted is often quite different from one another, lending decidedly different qualities to their poetry. In this way, one of the
most significant differences in regards to mood is the opposition in terms of literary voice that their poetry reveals. It is indeed
very interesting to note how both Elliot and Frost touch on very similar subjects in their works. These poets address many of the issues fundamental to humankind: such
as love, death, nature, and family. But their different perspectives and analysis of these similar themes reveals their entirely different values, tastes, methods, and outlooks.
For example, Elliots, The Wasteland, is a story about the human soul. It is souls that are likened to a wasteland since humans feel
deserted by God from the moment of their birth. Elliot uses the symbol of the Grail to represent the means by which we realign ourselves with God. And
so, humans spend their lives searching for the Grail and thus, in search of meaning. More specifically, Elliot reminds us in the use of this analogy of the importance
of striving to attain immortality, just as Jesus himself did. Over and over again in our lives we are tested, and each choice we confront requires that we make
a choice. And so, clearly Elliot is likening the Grail to that of a giver of life. In this way, he is extolling the virtue of life and
the importance of man to find spiritual value. Without striving for immortality, the life of a man is not fully valued.
