or lost. In many ways the Yalta conference, which is argued as the beginning of the cold war, can be seen in this light. This conference took place before the
end of the Second World War, but the transcript and majority of the agreements of the conference were not to become public knowledge until well after the end of the
war (Theoharis, 1970). Indeed, had Germany won that war it is unlikely any of this would ever have become public record. The Yalta Conference took place in 1945 between
February 4th - 11th. The conference was attended by the big three powers of the time, The United States President Franklin Delano Roosevelt , The United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston
Churchill and the Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. With this collection of political leaders all in some form of alliance against a common enemy it is unsurprising that this conference was
to influence the balance of global political power in the coming years (Theoharis, 1970). If we look at the circumstances of the agreeement and the following events we can see
how the balance of power shifted and adjusted to events and how the alliances were formed and within the framework that was to become political disagreement and culminate in the
rivalry of the cold war. At the rime of the conference Germany was in a bad position, it was predicted, quite accurately that Germany would fall, then it would
