commercial aviation and to dramatically impact the airline industry(Morrison and Winston, 2003). These are the Wright Amendment, perimeter rules and slot controls - all of which serve to limit
competition among carriers at key airports (Morrison and Winston, 2003). The purpose of the Wright Amendment was originally to help control prices, since by limiting the competition prices skyrocket
as a result (Morrison and Winston, 2003). The origin of the Wright Amendment was to prevent Dallas-Forth Worth from being undermined
by the older Love Field Airport (Irving, 2003). This happened while the Fort-Worth airport was still in the planning stages and the airlines, airports, and other aviation officials made
agreements with each other(Irving, 2003). All of the airlines agreed to move to Dallas-Fort Worth from Love Field and the city of Dallas agreed to shut Love Field to
commercial traffic (Irving, 2003). With this said and done, everyone believed that an equitable system would ensue, and that competition would remain as it always had. However, then
up-and-comer Southwest Airlines emerged on the scene, changing the entire dynamic (Irving, 2003). Southwest never was a part of
any of these deals simply because they didnt fly at the time the deals were made (Irving, 2003). After fighting many legal battles, it was determined that Southwest had
the right to continue using Dallas Love Field (Irving, 2003). Hence the birth of the Wright Amendment (Irving, 2003). Clearly the other airlines were concerned that Southwest would
