offers a review of each book, separately. The Witch of Black Bird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare The Witch of Black
Bird Pond is a very interesting book that is about the Puritans and people who were different, and thus considered to be witches! It takes place in the state of
Connecticut before it was a state, and before the country was the United States. It takes place in the 17th century and is very interesting in that it truly offers
the reader a look at what life was like back before the nation was truly a nation. In this land people were
very hardworking and most of them were Puritans. The main character, Kit, is not a Puritan and is sent there to live with her aunt and uncle who are Puritans.
She is seen as very odd, and thus a witch, especially when she becomes friends with a woman, a Quaker, who is believed to be a witch. Quakers were people
who were also religious, like the Puritans, but also very different. This is the ultimate setting of the story. It is, however, also a story about people who are siding
with England and those who wish to be independent from England. In this story Kit has to move from the Caribbean, where
she lived with her grandfather. Her grandfather had died and so she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle in an environment that was very different from her
