it was made into a film. It is a story about a couple, a very successful couple, whose life and marriage begins to fall apart. They are a couple who
have relied heavily on material success in their lives and when things become tense they begin to turn on one another, learning that what they had built their relationship on
was of no worth at all. The following paper presents a summary and review of the novel. The War of the Roses
The couple in the novel is Oliver and Barbara Rose and they seem to have the perfect relationship or marriage. He is a very successful lawyer and she is
a woman who is working hard and then succeeding at being a very successful caterer. But then their relationship begins to fall apart. And, although things are falling apart neither
of them wants to give an inch and file for divorce. Neither of them wants to lose what they have achieved in terms of material possessions which is primarily the
house itself, and neither wants to give up any custody rights. As such the fight begins and it becomes "The War of the Roses" where "They seemed to survive on
a diet of mutual hate" (Adler 91). They continue to live in the house together, all but living completely separate lives, while
engaging in horrible actions towards one another. Oliver, at one point, is trying to make his lover, Ann, stay with him but she cannot deal with the ridiculous and harmful
nature of it all. She tells him that it is just a house and it is just stuff and he can always get more or get another. He replies that,
