population had only been true "Americans" since the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence in 1776, just a few short years earlier. Just a few years later, in
1812, we were once again fighting against the British. The War of 1812 was declared for a variety of reasons. British insistence on pursuing and capturing their escaped
sailors that sought refuge on US ships was one reason. Another reason that the war ensued was because of the trade restrictions the British put on the US becacause
they were at war with France and didnt want us trading with them. The most prominent of the reasons for the War of 1812, however, was our desire to
expand our territories into the Northwest Territory. The young United States faced numerous problems in enlarging her territories into the surrounding geographic area. As a consequence they sometimes still
ran afoul of foreign entities and almost constantly had to deal with the aboriginal peoples who had the odd perception that the lands upon which their peoples had lived for
centuries was theirs. Britain was actually funding many of the groups of Native Americans that were aggressively resisting US expansion into the Northwest frontier. The King of England
still held control of the Northern half of the North American continent and the US felt that that control rightly belonged to it. Although we had tried to seize
