are comparing aspects of Homers story to real life. As perhaps the most ancient text of war The Iliad surely stands as something to be considered in the face of
modern war. With this in mind the following paper examines the relevance of Homers story to the War in Iraq. The War in Iraq and The Iliad
It is perhaps important to note that, regardless of technology and the time that has passed between modern times and the Trojan War, "War
is shaped by human nature, the complexities of human behavior, and the limitations of human mental and physical capabilities" (Owens). This is perhaps the most important thing to remember when
comparing the two realities of war. Time does not matter for human nature, despite technology, is still essentially the same. In a
simple example of similarities, similarities that further point to human nature, one author notes that at the beginning of the War in Iraq Al Gore had warned "against a foreshortened
deliberation," much like Nestor had cautioned "Agamemnon against hasty judgment" (Gore on War). In both cases, despite any heeding of good advice, war was engaged in regardless of the wisdom
