and others have for a particular dog. It is a story of troubles in a community concerning farmers and hunters and it is a story of love and redemption. It
is a novel that offers murder and punishment, as well as forgiveness. The following provides a simple book report on the novel. The Voice of Bugle Ann In
the beginning of the story the narrator introduces Bugle Ann, indicating that "Her voice was something to dream about, on any night when she was running through the hills. The
first moment she was old enough to boast and individual voice, Springfield Davis swore that she would be a great dog, and within another month he had given her the
name she carried so proudly" (Kantor ). Bugle Ann was a hunting dog and she lived in a region where many men possessed hunting dogs. These dogs were their best
friends, a creature to rely on to feed the family, and to serve as a companion in so many ways. However, there came a time when farmers, one in
particular, moved into the region and put up fences to protect their sheep. This was seen as wrong by many men, especially Spring, for it could potentially harm the dogs
when hunting, while the dogs would never harm the sheep. His neighbor, however, did not see it this way and to make matters worse his neighbors child and Springs child
fell in love and complicated the story even more. In this respect it is something of a Romeo and Juliet type story for Springs son Bengy is in love
with his neighbors daughter Camden Terry. This love story is strong and prevelant throughout the whole story and serves as the foundation of redemption and forgiveness in the end. Unlike
