will be visited by a wealthy woman. There is a sense of hope for the people who are incredibly lost, yet the play also presents the reader/viewer with a lot
of satirical comedy. The following paper examines the relationship between tragedy and comedy in the play. The Visit The entire premise of the story and the location of
the story is something of a tragedy. If one looks at the general plot one can clearly see the tragic elements. In this story the town is in a state
of utter poverty. Unknown to the townspeople, the town is in this state because of one woman, Claire, the woman they expect a visit from who used to live there.
She owns most of the town and is responsible for the fall of the town. In the beginning of the story she
is soon expected to arrive and the people hope that with her great wealth she will save them. She comes to town and promises to give them a great deal
of money under one condition. That condition involves the death of a man who once loved, Ill. When he dies she will give the town and families a great deal
of money and they will all essentially be wealthy. In the end the townspeople kill this man so they will receive the money.
This story is a tragic story for it is one of revenge on the part of Claire, and the determined death of one man who seems no more guilty
of being a horrible person than Claire. The townspeople, in their greed, put a great deal of things on credit, spending money they do not yet have, and many plan
