black and when viewing the exquisite piece, it appears to almost sink into the parks grounds. It is in the midst of the grass, but is also next to a
concrete walkway making viewing of the names quite accessible. The walkway is composed not of mere pavement but of small squares etched into the concrete that creates a contrast with
the smooth and shiny black wall it intersects. The memorial has been around for about two decades even though the Vietnam War ended quite some time ago. The Vietnam Veterans
Memorial located in Washington, D.C. is often just called "The Wall" ("The Wall," 2000). Few ask "what wall?" because it is rather well known and many people call it by
its acquired nickname. The monument in fact is a site that is visited frequently (2000). The idea for the construction of the wall began in 1979 by Jan
C. Scruggs but the design was submitted by Yale architectural student, Maya Lin (2000). It was built and dedicated in 1982 (2000). The Vietnam Memorial Wall is in
an urban park setting ("Vietnam," 2003). Its construction system is "cut stone masonry" and it has been described as a "powerfully evocative minimalist monument" (2003). What is perhaps most striking
about this wall is the clarity and precision in which it was constructed and also the fact that ones reflection is clear. It is in a sense a mirror as
