is that they are run by bureaucracies. Someone who has a legitimate claim for benefits may be turned down erroneously and these things happen sometimes for ridiculous reasons. Bureaucracies are notoriously unhelpful. They make many mistakes and a primary problem is that there is no one to call to get help. That is, phone calls to a state or federal agency may result in being passed from agent to agent, but little good information is gleaned. Again, a large part of the problem is the way that the agencies are set up. Some agencies will pay benefits matter of factly and even when they do, claims may be denied. At the Veterans Administration for example, the claims process is rather logical, but there are times when people are turned down. Sometimes, the problem is simply a matter of not having appropriate paperwork. Sometimes, the claims analyst makes a poor decision. Many things can happen in the course of a claim. In addressing issues at the Veterans Administration, and whether or not their claims process and opportunity for recourse is acceptable, the rules and regulations must be reviewed. The VA uses a very precise method of going through a certain protocol. The process is rather lengthy and the VA does look at many different records before making a decision. Hence, the claimant is waiting on pins and needles wondering what is going on. The fact that the process is not swift does not bode well for this agency. When there is an adverse action from the agency, the veterans can appeal and the decision can be reversed. However, this too is a lengthy process. Ethics enter the picture.
