would spent 22 years to keep the VA out of financial straits and to avoid political corruption (Longman, 2007). After the Second World War, Omar Bradley took over the VA
for a period of two years (Longman, 2007). He is credited with bringing the organization into the modern age (Longman, 2007). At the time he took control, the media had
given the VA much bad publicity and in an effort to change things, he would begin to partner the VA with the nations medical schools (Longman, 2007). The schools were
given the opportunity to use the hospitals as teachings hospitals and soon it would be the case that many physicians would receive their training at VA hospitals (Longman, 2007).
For a time, the VA enjoyed good publicity, but things changed during the 1950s (Longman, 2007). Congress would cut the budget at the VA and this resulted in a significant
amount of layoffs (Longman, 2007). After the Korean War many vets were not able to get care unless they had war related injuries (Longman, 2007). Once again, the economic and
political problems would begin to emerge. The VA was not= longer a desirable agency. Also, after a time, the VA hospitals developed a reputation for keeping veterans for months or
years and the hospitals become more like warehouses for homeless veterans than real hospitals (Longman, 2007). While there were some dismal things to come from the VA, there
