really listening to something. Listen can involve many different things, and is not merely about listening to someone or something. The following paper examines the verb "listen" and discusses its
importance and meanings. Listen In first looking at the verb we note that, according to the dictionary, it is from Old English, as well as related to Sanskrit,
meaning "he hears." It is dated before the 12th century and also alludes to more than just hearing something as it involves many things, not just the sense of sound.
In the dictionary the word is given three modern definitions: " 1 : to pay attention to sound...2 : to hear something with thoughtful attention : give consideration...3 : to
be alert to catch an expected sound" (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). When we first think of the word "listen" we often think of listening to someone and truly paying attention to
what they are saying. Such action involves more than hearing. In listening we look for deeper meaning, the emotion, the thoughts that all make up what someone is saying. It
is more than hearing the words and perceiving the words as we look deeper and use our personal beings to hear as well as understand what the person is saying
and why they are saying it. This is the most common association with listening. We can also listen to music and lyrical sounds in the same manner. No one is
talking to us when we listen to music. And, we can often just hear the music and sing along or just have the music in the background. But, in listening
we are really finding a sense of meditation as we look into ourselves through the listening process. We listen to see how the song relates to us. We listen to
