matter of some debate. Opinions about government run from those who believe it should make all decisions to those who would just as soon do without it entirely. This paper
considers what kinds of decisions governments should make, and argues that there is a place for government in society and that in fact, there are some decisions that must be
left up to government. Discussion Trying to construct an argument defining the roles of government in society and the types of decisions it should make is difficult, because the subject
is vast. Should we be concerned with government in relation to free market and the trade regulations it establishes; or would it be more beneficial to consider its law-making function.
What about health care or education? The armed forces and national security? Or perhaps we should be more concerned with government at the state and local levels? Because there are
so many choices, its not going to be possible to be comprehensive. What this paper does is to discuss various aspects of government and then use that lens to see
if we can arrive at a conclusion that meets the case for most examples. In his discussion of government decision-making with regard to health care, Kenneth Arrow points out
