more information on using this paper properly! Superficially, the works of poets Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti are quite different from one another. Ginsbergs long and sprawling
lines certainly look nothing like Snyders tight prose, and neither resemble the classical, traditional meter and structure of Ferlinghettis works. However, because all three writers use their differing narrative voices
to express similar themes and values, all of them belong to the "Beat generation" of poetic expression. This paragraph helps the student introduce the concept of beat poetry and
provide a historical and cultural context for it. To understand how these three writers integrate with the medium of beat poetry, it is first necessary to have some working knowledge
of the characteristics of said medium. Beat poetry is the poetic output of writers belonging to the "Beat Generation", an epithet used to describe a subculture of writers and artists
that developed in the West after the end of World War II, the primary characteristic of this subculture being a rejection of War-era values such as nationalism and materialism. One
might say that the Beat poets represented the first suggestion of the counter-culture ideology that would come to prominence in 1960s hippie culture: the use of psychedelic drugs, liberal views
of sexuality, and exploration of foreign cultures and religions. As such, works by Beat poets tend to express these values. That said, however, there is a great deal of variety
