life, and the tendencies of the human species. Statistics can provide this information by documenting trends in major life changes over a period of time. For example, a recent report
by the Pew Forum performed a statistical analysis on the changes to religious faith in the United States. This paragraph helps the student introduce the relevant research. The report was
carried out by using a survey instrument to acquire information regarding personal experiences with change in religion from a sample size of some 2,867 people ("Faith", 2009). The surveys contained
questions regarding individuals experiences with whether or not they still belonged to their childhood faith, and examined what faith those respondents were now in comparison to the faith they changed
from ("Faith", 2009). The survey indicate that some 44% of respondents have changed religious faith over the course of their lives, with 4% transitioning to having no religious affiliation at
all ("Faith", 2009). The survey also utilized demographic data to track at what points in life these changes were typically found to occur. The findings suggested that the majority
of individuals chose to leave their childhood faith before they were 24 years of age, with most of them joining some new faith before the age of 36 ("Faith", 2009).
After that, the frequency of changes slows considerably, with almost no respondents transitioning after the age of 50 ("Faith", 2009). Knowing this information reveals insights into the changing patterns in
