The role of a researcher is to collect data in order to answer research questions, the data may be both primary and secondary data. The value of pod casts or RSS feeds will depend on the content and the type of research being undertaken, with the potential of the sources to provide secondary information, and is some cases primary information. For example, business research may benefit from the use of an RSS feed to track data regarding a company or companies, likewise social research on blogs may benefit from the RSS feed for updates on blogs, likewise some pod casts may be useful primary research data for media studies subjects. However, the menus of the sources of information may be seen as due to the ability to provide you up to date information (Hsu, 2007). When looking at pod casts it can be argued they are simply a more up-to-date media formats, able to deliver some of the same information as older formats, such as printed formats, video or radio. Pod casts are already being used by some universities in the United States in order to in hand, support or compliment the learning which takes place in the classroom. Flanagan and Calandra (2005) argue that Podcasting "may be a cost-effective way to deliver instruction without compromising learning effectiveness.
