those countries to make attacks on American and allied troops by means of roadside bombings as well as mines and rocket-propelled grenades designed to destroy vehicle convoys. Such attacks have
been widely reported as the number one cause of American military deaths since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began in 2001. 2007 saw a possible answer to this problem,
in the form of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) program. These vehicles are specifically designed to defend against the most common types of insurgent attacks, and as such,
can represent a key strategic advantage in the war. However, some argue against the incorporation of MRAPs into service for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, however, in regards to the
incorporation of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) into the United States Armys Brigade Combat Teams, the enhanced protection offered to soldiers more than outweighs the few financial and logistical
drawbacks. The initiative to develop mine-resistant vehicles has been in place since it became apparent what a huge problem it was for troops in the combat zone. That said, the
actual MRAP design wasnt proposed until 2006, and didnt enter active development until 2007 (Stafford, 2007). It was deemed strategically necessary by key members of the armed forces whose operational
parameters did not allow for the liabilities presented by the frequency of roadside bombings that take place in Middle Eastern combat zones (Stafford, 2007). The vehicle works because its based
on a unique V-shaped frame design. The design takes impact at the middle point of the "v" shaped armored plates, which directs the force of ground-based explosions laterally away from
the center of the vehicle, and the occupants inside (Stafford, 2007). Orders for the MRAP vehicles have been quite high, and at this point some 45,000 vehicles have made their
